Week #3: Photo

This picture is interesting because it’s not like many pictures. Most pictures of famous people are vibrant and colorful but this is the opposite of that, dark and shadow filled. Many will just look past that and not think anything of this picture but I think there’s a hidden beauty within the picture. The dark connotation of the picture portrays that everything is not always ok and that’s ok. Like I said before commonly this is not depicted in today’s society which is why I think this photo stands out.

The Iowa caucus is a tremendous part of the presidential journey. There were some hiccups in the data recorded but right now, former mayor of South Bend Indiana, Pete Buttigieg came out on top of the 62% of precincts that have reported. He addresses this in his ‘semi victory’ speech on February 4th. Pete Buttigieg attended Harvard and then was elected mayor of South Bend, Indiana. He took an unpaid leave of absence to serve in the armed forces in Afghanistan, then coming back and winning 80% of the mayoral vote to be elected again. He later announced his run for presidency in April 2019. In his speech after the Iowa caucus Pete implements a lot of intricate strategies to get Americans listening to vote for him. One strategic method he adds to his speech was not in the speech itself. If you look behind him he purposely places a very diverse group of people to get a diverse group of voters effectively showing his diverse group of voters.

“Things I mean to know” STEM

One topic that I’ve also always wanted to know is: are conservatory universities effective and, does one need to take core stem classes that are not their major in college to succeed in life? Collegevine.com believes that one should take stem classes even if they’re not majoring in said subject to optimize basic learning skills. I agree but I believe to an extent one goes to college to learn they’re major and can develop those same learning skills along their path. While those stem classes may be beneficial I do think focusing on one subject will allow you to fully master that specific skill instead of multiple ok skills.

“Things I mean to know” Music

Another topic I’ve always wanted to address is: to what extent does music effect today’s society? Through my own experiences I’ve found that obviously music has a different impact on everyone’s lives. All of my free time is spent either listen to or playing music, so personally music has a huge impact in my life. Others may not listen to any music at all equating to a miserable life in my opinion. According to a Time article it says that music can “transform your mood” positively. This is a perfect example of this simple philosophically proven method to instantly brighten your day. I feel that people who do not let music impact their lives should open up to its wonders.

“Things I mean to know” Home Schooling

One topic that interests me is the effects home schooling has on students social ability’s. I’ve always wondered how much of public school was academic and how much was social. One example is that anyone can solve a math problem but can they work in a group with unhelpful people and still survive. By doing some research I found some negative reasons about home schooling on middleschool.net. I learned that the three main concerns of home schooling are lack of motivation, lack of facilities, and lack of socialization. These are interesting concerns because I feel that without interactions one cannot succeed in life.
